I am originally from Vietnam and was fortunate to have won academic scholarships to study in the UK.I am currently a Managing Director, Head of UK Institutional Sales at MFS Investment Management, a Boston-based global investment manager
Reflecting back on the earlier stage in my career, there was a distinct lack of diverse leaders in senior positions for me to look up to and learn from. It was challenging to believe that one could make it when there were so few role models. Today, I am encouraged to see that the financial industry has made a lot of progress, but there is still a long way to go
I also found that unconscious bias is so common but the majority of us are not even aware it exists. I have a stay at home husband and even though the arrangement works perfectly for us, we often get criticism from people as it does not fit into the traditional gender roles. I think we all have to play our part in creating a world where society becomes consciously unbiased and diversity is fully embraced in all of its shapes and forms.
To contribute my small part to fostering diversity and inclusion in the financial industry, I am currently a Co-Chair of the Race & Ethnicity workstream at the Diversity Project. I was a co-Founder of the award winning campaign #Fishoutof water, a campaign designed to raise awareness and foster inclusion. I am also an Ambassador for reboot.
Outside of work, I am an aspiring pianist and a very busy mother of two young boys who keep me on my toes constantly. I am also a member of the PLSA Policy Board, Defined Benefit Committee and a School Governor for a high school in East London.
