Tim Benjamin

I grew up in Worcestershire England, attending my local village comprehensive school before going to Oxford to study Engineering Science in 1995. A chance meeting whilst working in London for an engineering firm during one holiday led me to applying for a summer placement at Merrill Lynch on their debt markets trading floor.

Having enjoyed the summer immensely (and being offered a job to start after my Masters was completed) I joined Merrill Lynch full time in 1999. I worked in credit derivatives as a structurer for nine years, and then moved roles to derivative sales, by now at Barclays Capital. My career “changed sides” in 2013 to asset management, joining Insight Investment as a Client Director and becoming Deputy Head of Client Relationship Management in January 2019. I enjoy the diversity of my client base, looking after the Asia Pacific region as well as certain clients in the UK and Netherlands.

When I moved to Insight I found the gender diversity was much greater than in my previous roles, and realised the benefits this brings the company. I strongly believe that improving diversity beyond just gender would multiply this positive impact. I would rather take an active role in trying to make this happen than a purely passive one.

Away from work I really love outdoor pursuits, particularly mountain biking, trail running, snowboarding, and the list goes on. Time spent with family and friends in the Alps, summer or winter, is always enjoyable.
