I am of Irish heritage but born and raised in Britain. I have been in the alternative investment industry for over 20 years.
I started my career as a receptionist for a hedge funds straight after completing my A-levels and worked my way up to be running a fund accounting team for a global fund administrator in Dublin within the first five years of my career. When looking to return to London, with seven years fund accounting experience and just over two years management experience I hit a lot of hurdles trying to secure a new position as I didn’t have a degree.
I did secure a great position at FRM (later Man FRM) first running their Middle Office and later Operational Due Diligence. The experience of trying to secure this job led me to complete a degree in my spare time and I achieved a first class honours degree in Natural Sciences (Astronomy and Planetary Science) from the Open University in 2017 after six years of part time study.
I have seen and experienced many of the ways women can be treated inappropriately and unfairly in the workplace and this has given me a passion to advance diversity of all kinds in our industry. I genuinely believe that more diverse industries achieve better results and that most people want to do the right thing but may need some help to do it. My current role provides me great opportunities to provide guidance and bring together people in the alternative investment industry to work towards this response.
