Lorna Tonner

Partner and Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

I’m a white Scottish woman whose journey began at my local comprehensive school, followed by studying statistics at my local university (Glasgow). I subsequently joined Hymans Robertson as a graduate trainee and qualified as an actuary in 2002. Early on I took on responsibility for a local authority pension fund client portfolio, while also stepping into internal team and people leadership roles.

Hymans Robertson has been my professional home throughout my career. I became a partner in 2006 and gradually shifted my focus towards business strategy and people leadership. What’s driven me most, though, is a deep commitment to helping people from all backgrounds grow, develop, and thrive in their careers.

In 2024, I stepped into the role of Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, which gives me the opportunity to shape and deliver our firm’s strategy for building an inclusive environment where everyone has equal opportunity to thrive. I also serve as a non-executive member of our Partnership Council, contribute to our Ethics Leadership Group, and act as a Sustainability Champion. Mentoring different people across the firm remains a personal priority and keeps me always learning too.

Outside of work, I balance my part-time role with raising my high school children, including my daughter, who’s already passionate about championing women in tech. Her drive inspires me daily and reminds me why inclusive leadership matters.
