I studied Business and Finance at City University which was well known for attracting students from all over the world and was pretty diverse. My first job after graduation, was at Anderson Consulting where I was the only black person from over 100 graduates that were recruited in the same year. Over the next two decades of my career in the financial services sector, I was often the only woman and most certainly the only black person (or person of colour) in the room. This can be very exhausting!
I am passionate about diversity, equity and inclusion. I have a keen interest in eradicating social inequalities and discrimination in our society. Throughout my career in an array of advisory and delivery roles, I have actively participated in causes to foster social change. In my former firm, I was elected as the Corporate Social Responsibility Director, where I led the strategy on how we contributed to the society and reduced social barriers in deprived areas of London. On a personal basis, I am a mentor, and I was a Board member for the Greenwich Music Hub, where I worked with the Board of Trustees to define and execute on strategy which enabled the Hub to provide the gift of music to kids from low-income background.
The power of diversity, equity and inclusion is invaluable and there is so much that needs to be done in this space in the industry. Together, we can change the landscape for generations to come and I would like to be part of that change!
