I was born in Uganda and arrived in the UK as a child following the expulsion of the Asian community. Like many Ugandan Asians at the time my parents came with only suitcases of clothes and nothing else, having to rebuild their lives from scratch. I am incredibly proud of their resilience and determination in overcoming the discrimination and challenges they faced.
After a 30+ year senior career in asset management, my time in the City was interrupted by unexpected health issues. During this career break, conversations with numerous colleagues highlighted the scarcity of senior talent in the financial sector and the lack of attention given to age discrimination.
In response, I established a platform to connect senior job seekers (over 50s) with age-diversity-friendly employers. I passionately believe that reintegrating willing, experienced senior talent into the market benefits the job seekers, recruiting companies and the economy as a whole. Through initiatives like this and others, I hope to add significant value to the ambitious and admirable goals of the Diversity Project.
