Together we thrive: The power of community for mental wellbeing

Being part of a safe, positive community was vital for our mental health and wellbeing. We thrived when we had strong connections with other people and supportive communities which reminded us that we were not alone. Communities provided a sense of belonging, safety, support in hard times, and gave us a sense of purpose.

During Mental Health Awareness Week, we invited everyone to celebrate the power and importance of community. The Mental Health community at the Diversity Project had organised a webinar in which we shared ways to build and protect our mental wellbeing by belonging to positive communities, which brought out the best in all of us.

Our speakers discussed, amongst other topics:

  • The importance of connection and dangers of loneliness

  • Definitions and examples of positive communities

  • Attributes thriving communities shared in common

  • How communities played different roles at different stages of life

  • How to be intentional in finding a community in which you ‘belonged’

  • How ERGs played a pivotal role in shaping corporate culture, fostering a sense of belonging, and driving engagement

Date: Thursday 15th May 2025
