Our aim is to develop a sense of community while providing valuable resources and support for individuals coping with the challenges of perimenopause/menopause in the workplace.
The menopause journey can be very isolating and, in the UK, recent estimates suggest that as many as 900,000 to 1 million women have quit their jobs due to symptoms associated with menopause. Other research indicates that approximately 60,000 women are currently unemployed for this reason.
Various research reports from recent years highlight the negative impact of menopause symptoms on women’s careers:
- Fawcett Society (2022): A survey found that 1 in 10 women who worked during menopause left their jobs because of symptoms.
- Simplyhealth (2023): Research found that 23% of women aged 40-60 considered resigning due to menopause symptoms, with 14% stating they planned to quit.
- Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) (2023): Their study showed that 6% of women had left their jobs due to a lack of support for their menopause symptoms and 53% of respondents were able to think of a time when they were unable to go to work because of their symptoms.
- Research cited by UK Parliament (2022): Cited a BUPA study that reported 900,000 women had left their jobs over an unspecified period because of menopausal symptoms.
These statistics underscore the importance of addressing menopause in the workplace, as a significant portion of the workforce is affected. There is a clear need for improved support systems and policies to help women manage their symptoms effectively while maintaining their careers.
