Menopause affects 51% of the population and can have a significant impact on both physical and mental health, with 1 in 6 women experiencing depression during this time. Perimenopause, the period before menopause, typically spans around five years between the ages of 46 and 51, often coinciding with the pressures of caring responsibilities at home and increased seniority at work. Menopause itself occurs, on average, around the age of 51.
Research has traditionally focused on the link between oestrogen and brain health, particularly its impact on dopamine and serotonin levels. More recently, research has begun to explore the relationship between menopause and neurodiversity.
In this webinar, hosted by Sam Alexander, UK Country Officer and COO at DWS, alongside organisational psychiatrist Dr Judith Mohring, attendees learned how neurodiversity can present differently in women and why perimenopause and menopause can be particularly challenging for this group.
The session explored key considerations and practical ways to support both ourselves and our colleagues, helping to retain senior female talent within the financial services industry.
